My artist name is DJ Y, also known as JY. I am a Munich-based French DJ and bastard pop producer with a passion for crossing musical boundaries and surprising audiences.
My musical journey started long before I stepped behind the decks. Growing up in France, I studied piano for twelve years and developed a strong foundation in music theory and composition. At the
same time, I sang in a Gregorian Schola, performing sacred chants in cathedrals across Europe. Those early experiences taught me the importance of harmony, atmosphere, and emotion in
music—elements that still influence my work today.
After moving to Germany in 1991, I began DJing at student parties in Landshut. The 1990s were an incredible time to be involved in music, and I witnessed firsthand the rise of techno, dance, and electronic culture. I immersed myself in a wide variety of styles, constantly expanding my musical horizons and shaping the eclectic approach that defines my sets today.
After spending a year in Wuppertal, I became resident DJ at the legendary Café am Markt in Kaiserslautern, where I refined my ability to read a crowd and create unforgettable nights. Soon after,
Munich became my home. From 1996 to 2007, I organized and hosted French Kiss, one of Munich’s biggest and most successful French music parties,
bringing together people through a shared love of music and celebration.
My journey into bastard pop and mashups began when I met the French bootleg pioneer ComaR. I instantly fell in love with the creativity, humor, and freedom of the genre. Inspired by his work, I started producing my own mashups and bootlegs, blending unexpected tracks and styles into fresh, energetic creations.
Over the years, my productions have gained support from some of the most respected names in the bootleg and mashup scene, including DJ Zebra, DJ Moule, Partyben, and Loo & Placido. My tracks
have also been played by radio DJs around the world, helping me reach audiences far beyond the dancefloor.
Today, I continue to DJ and produce with the same enthusiasm that first drew me to music. Whether I’m playing a club set, a private event, or creating a new mashup in the studio, I love connecting different musical worlds and taking listeners on an unexpected journey.
The mashup world truly opened up for me when one of my productions caught the attention of none other than Moby himself. After hearing my mashup
of Extreme Ways and Adele's Rolling in the Deep, he described it as "better than my original track"—a compliment that remains one of the highlights of my career.
In 2011, my mashup combining Madcon and The Police was personally selected by Adam Sandler for inclusion in the soundtrack of the Sony Pictures movie Just Go with It. This marked my first major appearance on an international movie soundtrack and introduced my work to an even wider audience.
The following years brought even more exciting opportunities. In 2012, Universal Music Germany officially commissioned me to create a mashup for Lana Del Rey. The resulting track was released in Germany as a promotional gift supporting her hit single Summertime Sadness.
That same year, I was invited by Chimperator Productions to contribute to the first official mashup compilation for Cro, one of Germany's most successful and influential artists. For the project, I produced three exclusive mashups that became part of this landmark release.
By the end of 2012, I was nominated for "Mashup Artist of the Year" by radio legend Matthias Matuschik on Bavaria's leading radio station, Bayern 3.
Over the years, my productions have attracted attention and support from a remarkable range of artists, including Kavinsky, Matthieu Chedid, Suzanne Vega, George Barnett, Milow, Anna F and Touch and Go.
Today, my mashups continue to reach listeners worldwide and enjoy daily airplay on I Love Radio, one of Germany's largest interactive radio networks.
From receiving praise from Moby to landing on a Hollywood soundtrack, from official label collaborations to national radio recognition, I've spent years proving that great mashups can be much more than just clever edits—they can create entirely new musical stories.
My background as a bastard pop producer has taught me one essential lesson: great music has no boundaries. From timeless classics to current chart hits, from disco and rock to house, funk, and guilty pleasures, I embrace every genre that keeps people smiling and dancing.
My philosophy is simple: read the crowd, not the playlist. Every event is unique, and I believe the best parties happen when the music evolves with the energy on the dancefloor. That's why I never rely on a rigid setlist—I create the soundtrack of the night in real time, responding to the people in front of me and keeping the momentum alive.
Whether it's a packed club, a corporate event, or a wedding celebration, my goal is always the same: to bring people together, fill the dancefloor, and create unforgettable moments.
Over the years, I've built a reputation for delivering uplifting vibes, infectious energy, and unforgettable parties. And when it comes to weddings, that's where I truly shine. Known for my
ability to connect generations, blend musical tastes, and keep guests dancing from the first song to the last, I have become one of the most sought-after wedding DJs around.
Your wedding is more than just a party—it's the soundtrack to one of the most important days of your life. My job is to make sure every guest remembers
it for all the right reasons. 🎉💍🎶
